About the Award

The national celebration of Black graduates, acknowledging the struggles, celebrating the successes, and sharing the inspiring stories of one generation of Black graduates to another and the world.

Please note that all nominees must be Black*[1], and part of the graduating set of 2020 in the UK.

1) The Black Impact All-Rounder Award

This award is for the student who engaged with and was fully immersed in various aspects of university life, while balancing it with their academics.

Criteria:

  • They must have and be able to demonstrate a strong academic record.
  • They must have been part of at least one social club/society in their university.
  • They must be able to demonstrate how they made a positive impact during their time at university.

2) The Black Impact Black Entrepreneur Award

This award is for the student who was running their own business whilst at university.

Criteria:

  • They must have an enterprise and should be able to demonstrate evidence of this in the nomination.
  • They must be able to demonstrate how they have promoted their enterprise to attract customers to their business.
  • They should be able to demonstrate some customer satisfaction from their clients/target audience in their application.

3) The Black Impact Innovator Award

This award is for the student who has been able to propose and/or execute something new or innovative whilst at university. This proposal could be a scientific discovery, a technological development, digital creativity or a new way of providing a service that was/is to be adopted by the university or community and was beneficial to students/community.

Criteria:

  • The innovation/idea must be new to the environment (university or community) to which it was proposed.
  • The innovation has to have been proposed or made whilst they were at university.
  • They must be able to demonstrate that the innovation was proposed, and/or is being used/scheduled to be used at a stated time.

4) The Black Impact Social Media Influencer Award

This award is for the student who has a decent following on social media. They must have a strong personal brand on social media and use their social media channel to impact people positively.

Criteria:

  • They must have at least 1000 followers on a single social media platform (not a combined number across various channels).
  • The social media platform must be used to promote positive and relevant content.
  • They must have been running this account whilst they were in university.

5) The Black Impact Black Creative Award

This award is for the student who is an unsung hero in the creative industry such as musicians, artists, bloggers, actors, vloggers, book authors and anyone who creates positive content artistically in any form.

Criteria:

  • They must be able to demonstrate evidence of their craft.
  • They must have been creative while in university.

6) The Black Impact Leadership Award
(click HERE to nominate)

This award is for the student who stood out as a leader and put themselves forward in positions of responsibility and service. They could be student union officers, course reps, sports team captains, club/society executives etc.

Criteria:

  • They must be able to describe their leadership role and responsibilities in the application.
  • They must be able to demonstrate how they made positive impact during their leadership journey.
  • They should be able to demonstrate how they mentored or supported upcoming leaders.

7) The Black Impact Social Activist Award

This award is for the student who through their passion and dedication brought about transformational change during their time at university.

Criteria:

  • They must be able to demonstrate passion for a social cause.
  • They must be able to demonstrate how they proffered a solution to a social problem during their time at university.
  • They must be able to demonstrate how they stood up for an underrepresented or marginalised group during their time at university.

8) The Black Impact Olympian Award

This award is for the student who was involved in at least one sport whilst at university as a player or a coach and performed excellently in that sport.

Criteria:

  • They must be able to demonstrate that they have been part of a sporting club/team in the university.
  • They must be able to demonstrate that they have participated in competitions and won at least a medal whilst at university.

9) The Black Impact Academic Excellence Award

This award is for the student who has done exceptionally well in their academic pursuit.

Criteria:

  • They must demonstrate their academic excellence in the application.
  • They must be able to demonstrate resilience and consistency throughout their time at university.
  • They should be predicted to be graduating with at least a 2.1.

10) The Black Impact Resilience Award

This award for the student who has encountered difficulties whilst studying but has been able to overcome them and graduate.

Criteria:

  • They must have a story that demonstrates why they deserve the award.
