Active Leeds Re-opening Statement

After the government announcement last week, we have been working hard closely following government guidelines, to ensure Active Leeds can provide customers with a safe environment in which to keep active. We have consulted closely with customers during lockdown and these findings have played a significant part in our reopening plans.

As I’m sure you’ll understand, things may look a little different to how they did prior to lockdown, but we are now delighted to be able to reopen our doors and start welcoming customers back.

We are preparing to reopen our centres in different phases, starting with Holt Park Active on Monday 27th July, followed by Aireborough, Armley, John Charles, John Smeaton and Morley on Wednesday 29th July.

To begin with centres will only be available for the Gym and Group Exercise classes. We will be posting the full site by site timetable to the Active Leeds website and App on Monday 20th July. We are busy working on resuming pool activities as well and hope to have further updates next week. For the time being, all swimming lesson direct debits remain suspended.

New signage has been installed to all sites to ensure that we can manage and maintain social distancing in our leisure centres, but there is still plenty of work to do to ensure all of our leisure centres can reopen safely, but I assure you we are working very hard and plans are well underway. However, things are constantly changing and therefore we will keep both you and our customers informed of any developments at all times.

As you may have noted in previous communications we have sent out, all health and fitness memberships payable by direct debit remain temporarily suspended until it is deemed appropriate to re-instate these payments. This will be at a time when customers can enjoy the full benefits of an Active Leeds membership. If they are not able to attend when we first reopen we completely understand, and their membership will remain suspended. We will provide sufficient notice to allow customers to cancel their membership before any scheduled payment is due, upon the re-in-statement of standard direct debit payments.

We have taken into consideration temporary reduced memberships and pricing as we reopen, reflecting the restrictions we are having to put in place. Details on temporary membership and pricing arrangements are being communicated to customers, and details of how to book their activity sessions will follow shortly. Once they have this, they can reinstate their membership prior to reopening, by contacting the Active Leeds Customer Service Centre.

Times for activities will be time-limited to adhere to social distancing. All sessions will need to be booked and paid for in advance. Bookings can be made for all the proposed sites from the afternoon of Monday 20th July with all activities from 27th July to Sunday 2nd August being free of charge. We will have plenty of staff available to provide support and guidance during reopening.

We are keeping customers updated on the progress of our reopening plans via the following page on our website: https://active.leeds.gov.uk/home/alert as well as sending out notifications on the Active Leeds app and across our social networks.

Thank you again for your patience during this time. We can’t wait to start welcoming our customers back into our facilities very soon.

Kind Regards

Mark Allman
